Summary: Communication is not flat, it is fluid and changing at a rapid pace. With its many facets, I decided that I would focus this blog broadly on communication: professional, visual, social, non-verbal, organizational and on down the line. This blog will be a hodgepodge of things that interest me, all of which touch communication in some way.

I’m a twenty-something PR and social media gal living in Minneapolis with my husband and two dogs (American Bulldog, Hank a.k.a. Lovekins Baby and Olde Bulldogge, Charles a.k.a. Popples).

People and human behavior have fascinated me since childhood. I was exposed to a number of atypical situations a child usually finds themselves in growing up, so I watched, listened and learned and have continued that trend throughout the years. While in college as a business major, it was no shock that after taking an interpersonal communications class (which blew my face off) I marched over to my adviser and switched my major to communications and never looked back. The social sciences and communication studies are an intersection I came to love in college and continue to focus on, learn and engage in as I build my career and life moving forward.

In addition to my passion for people, I have a strong desire for bridging the gap between traditional media  and communication practices with new media, technology, emerging trends and its endless possibilities. First and foremost, My stance: I’m interested in the foundation, which I believe is people talking to and helping people a.k.a. relationship building. If you don’t know how to do that, all the tools and tactics in the world won’t help you. I mean that in a nice way too, not mean way. It’s just a fact.

My current gig puts me in a digital public relations role for Mall of America, where my efforts are focused on social media strategy and other online and traditional PR functions. Previous experience at two Minneapolis (integrated marketing) agencies, more than a year in training and development, hard time in the Minneapolis fine dining industry and a variety of interesting life experiences has prepared me well for this endeavor and any others that come my way.

My other interests include (but are not limited to): Building healthy relationships with my family and friends, laughing, great food, film, awards shows, the human spirit and what transforms it, reading more books, becoming a better writer, making a contribution, LEARNING from others and sharing what I know. Additionally, I love volunteering and being a member of Minnesota PRSA and Social Media Breakfast MSP.

And… this wouldn’t be complete without saying that what is said here is my content — inspired by my  experiences and interpretation of them — and repurposed for the folks that read here. Essentially, the views expressed on these pages are mine alone and not those of my employer.

  • This makes me even more excited for our coffee meeting! "I’m interested in the foundation, which I believe is people talking to and helping people a.k.a. relationship building." Let's just say, we might be twins...

John - Thank you. I appreciate the thoughts and well wishes more than you know. THANK YOU!
  • Hey there. You're off to a great start. That's exactly the type of goal that will keep you blogging because you will definitely learn a ton from others and about yourself throughout this process.

And it's always good to have awesome people like @arikhanson in your corner (but don't tell him I said that :)).

For me, the biggest obstacle has always been posting consistently. When I started blogging, I instututed "Blogging Mondays" to ensure I'd write a post each week. Worked for about six months, but it's so easy to get busy and ignore your blog.

November is National Blog Posting Month and I've been trying to post once each day for 30 days. I haven't made every day, but have made quite a few and the writing is already starting to come easier.

Hope that helps. Best of luck and I'll be awaiting your future posts.

Your comments mean so much to me Justin. I need all of the advice I can get. "Blogging Mondays" is a good one. I may adopt that:), if you don't mind. I also look forward to understanding Wordpress at some point (I'm part way, sort of). The @arikhanson is definitely good people and one that has inspired me. I'm pretty sure he's aware of this. Thank you again Justin.
  • Lisa-what an amazing intro to you and your blog...I know it will rank high on my reading list. You have so much to share with your rich experience and brilliant point of view! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours-I hope the cranberry relish/salad turns out OK ;)
