A LinkedIn “connection” is just that, a connection not a contact. There’s a difference in language there. Industrial revolution business practices thrived on “contacts.” Sure, the top echelon of PR, marketing and sales folks knew the value of building relationships and meaningful connections, but most business disciplines thrived on “contacts,” lists, blasts and other one-way, one-sided, talk at you behavioral business tactics.
How To Get a PR Internship/Job: Know Yourself
This post is really about knowing yourself, not not about writing a good resume. While that is important (see below), it is by knowing what turns you on, why it turns you on and what you want to do with what turns you on (professionally, of course*smile*) that will propel you in this life. When you have this stuff figured out, presenting yourself everywhere (resume, interviews, in your relationships, etc.) becomes much simpler because you are operating with confidence – gained only when you’re sure of what you’re doing.
Courageous. Thorough. Act. My Three Words for 2011
Simplicity always reigns in my world, so having these three words to come back to as my intended direction and purpose is extremely helpful. The words don’t symbolize an unrealistic expectation I have for myself, or a big goal I’ve written that is obtainable but still overwhelming to think about. They’re just three small words that can put me back on the right track to achieving what it is that I’ve deemed important in order to grow (integrity, service and growth are my eternal words for living).
What Does Digital PR Specialist for Mall of America Do Anyway?
How did you get started in this career and how did you start with Mall of America?
“When you were little, you were far more interested in people than in toys,” says my mom of me. That has never changed, and I as I ‘grow up’ my fascination of people, their behaviors and motivations only intensifies. My life-long love of people and appreciation for story telling originally placed me on the film studies path in college, which eventually turned into a love of the social sciences, interpersonal communication and PR.
A New Chapter
Life is a series of steps and it’s not the destination it’s the journey, right? Statements that are much easier said than believed most of the time because the majority of us have places we want to go and we just want to get there.
